Misfuelling research bibliography
The graded bibliography behind every figure in this repository: peer-reviewed ergonomics and tribology literature, SAE engineering papers, one large operational dataset of UK fuel drain enquiries, trade-body surveys and consumer research. Each entry records the authors, title, publisher, year, a URL and a grade describing how much weight the figure deserves, plus a note on the method and its known limitations.

UK Wrong Fuel Repository, Misfuelling research bibliography, v2026.1, https://wrongfuel.co.uk/data/misfuelling-sources
Method and limitations
Figures are aggregated from published sources, each carrying a grade from peer-reviewed through to secondary reporting. Derived rows are arithmetic performed here on a cited vehicle tank capacity and are labelled derived; recorded rows are labelled cited. No UK body records misfuelling incidents, so every national total in this field is an estimate, and where sources disagree this repository reports both rather than averaging them. The full bibliography is at sources.
Our engine scientists, fuel-system engineers and misfuel specialists would be glad to talk your situation through with you, free of charge. That consultation is what this repository offers: there is no fee, nothing to buy, and no obligation attached to any part of it.
Tell them what went in, roughly how much, and whether the engine has run. That is enough to establish which components are exposed and what the realistic range of outcomes is — and if the answer is that you need nobody at all, they will say so.
