Three in four wrong fuel incidents involve a diesel vehicle, and petrol into a diesel accounts for between 75 and 78 per cent of cases. Neither figure is a East Scotland figure — they are national, drawn from 57,047 UK enquiries — and anyone quoting you a county-level incidence number is inventing it. What does travel is the mechanism: a high-pressure pump fails on petrol the same way everywhere, and the variable that decides the bill is whether the engine ran.
The seasonal shape is worth knowing if you drive here regularly. Friday is the busiest day for callouts, 29 per cent above Sunday, and May and August are the peak months at about 12 per cent above the January baseline — holiday driving, unfamiliar vehicles, unfamiliar forecourts.
