Why what to do if you put wrong fuel in car works that way
Once the engine runs, petrol strips that lubricating film within minutes. Metal-to-metal contact in the pump sheds fine swarf, and the swarf travels forward into the common rail and the injectors. Sitting in the tank with the engine off, petrol does nothing at all. It has not reached the filter, the pump or the injectors.
